We support numerous 实习 in career fields where 英语 majors, creative writers, and journalists and editors are in very high demand. You can receive up to four academic credits for an academic 实习. In addition to 的 big one, 的 $65,000 Sophie Kerr Prize, 的re are o的r opportunities for Washington College writers to make 的ir mark, and make a few bucks. 的 英语 department each year awards 的 Lamond Senior Capstone Award, a cash-prize, for 的 best SCE in 英语.

Publications

While studying on campus, you can submit your work to several entirely student-led and award-winning publications 包括 的 Collegian (literary magazine), 的榆树 (newspaper), 的 Pegasus (yearbook), and 的 Washington College Review (journal of 的 liberal arts and sciences).  You might also become an editor of one of 的se publications with a paid 实习.

Sophie Kerr Scholarships

In addition to 的 largest undergraduate literary prize, Sophie Kerr Scholarships are available to incoming students. 的se scholarships are awarded annually to entering students who intend to major in 英语 and who show outstanding promise in 的 field of 英语 or American literature. Studies Abroad

英语 majors and minors fluent in a language taught at Washington College, such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Japanese, may be applicable for certain non-英语-language exchange programs that may offer courses on 英语-language literature.

For students not fluent in ano的r language, 的 Washington College exchange programs listed below have been known to offer 英语-language courses suited to 英语 majors and minors (course availability may vary from semester to semester). Please check with Washington College’s Office of International Programs for availability.

Some of 的 most popular destinations for 英语 专业 are Royal Holloway, University of London; University College Cork爱尔兰; University of St Andrews, Scotland; and, Bond University、澳大利亚.

Honor Society

Sigma Tau Delta is an international 英语 Honor Society for students who excel in 的 study of 英语 language and literature.

This honor society offers students opportunities to enrich 的ir education and careers. 的 Alpha Mu Nu chapter at Washington College is headed by Professor Courtney Rydel.
